T-Minus One Week (More or Less)

Jen and I spent Monday morning meeting with the doctor, assessing little Connor's health and discussing birthing options. We anticipate a birth sometime next week before Christmas, probably an induced labor, since it offers us the option of having family and photographer present at a decent hour, and more control over the entire birthing process.

Little Connor's heart rate was a healthy ~140 beats per minute and he is moving and kicking regularly. Since our visit to the MD two weeks ago, he managed to flip from a head-down position to a breech position. There is so much amniotic fluid present that the little kid can flip at will. It looks like the doctor will have to manually rotate him back into a reasonable birth position prior to inducing labor.

We are suspicious that he suffers from a malformed esophagus, meaning that if he is doing well on all other fronts, he will have to be nourished intravenously until a feeding tube or surgery is performed.

It is beginning to look like he may actually make it to a viable delivery date, something that seemed like such a long shot at Halloween and Thanksgiving. We are encouraged by the latest bit of information and hope things go well this week, knowing full well that everything can go south in a matter of an hour or two, yet I find myself hopeful for a live birth, and even the possibility that we may bring him home.
